Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large loaf soft Italian bread
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 6 cloves fresh garlic, finely minced
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
- ¾ teaspoon Kosher salt (plus more to taste)
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper (or to taste)
- 1 ½ to 2 cups shredded whole milk mozzarella (plus more as desired)
- Fresh chopped parsley (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large sheet pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
- Using a serrated knife, cut the bread in half lengthwise.
- In a bowl, mix the softened butter, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper to create a garlic butter spread. Adjust seasoning to taste.
- Spread the garlic butter generously over the cut side of the bread and place it buttered side up on the sheet pan.
- Bake for about 10 minutes until the butter is melted and the edges are crisp.
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle mozzarella cheese generously on top. Return to the oven for another 5 to 6 minutes until the cheese is melted. Broil for an additional 1-2 minutes for golden perfection.
- Garnish with chopped parsley, cut into slices, and serve warm.
Notes
For a robust flavor, add fresh herbs like basil or oregano. You can also substitute mozzarella with cheddar or provolone. Don’t forget the extra napkins!
