Delightful Christmas tree shortbread sticks that are crisp, buttery, and perfect for the holiday season.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon salt
- Green and red sprinkles (optional, for decoration)
- 1 tablespoon icing sugar (for dusting, optional)
Instructions
- Beat the softened butter and powdered sugar together in a large bowl until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
- Mix in the vanilla extract until fully combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, and salt, then slowly add to the wet ingredients until a smooth dough forms.
- Form the dough into a rectangle, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the chilled dough to about ¼ inch thick and cut into strips or use a tree-shaped cookie cutter.
- Place the dough pieces on the baking sheet, adding sprinkles if desired.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until lightly golden at the edges.
- Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- Dust with icing sugar if desired after cooling.
Notes
For richer flavor, use high-quality butter. Chilling the dough is essential for tender texture.
