Description

Quick and flavorful sesame chicken bites that can be made in under 30 minutes, perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp water
  • 1 Tbsp toasted sesame oil
  • 3 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 Tbsp sesame seeds
  • 2 Tbsp cooking oil
  • 1 lb boneless skinless chicken thighs, cut into small pieces
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 pinch each salt and pepper
  • 4 cups cooked jasmine rice
  • 2 whole green onions, sliced

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce by stirring together soy sauce, water, sesame oil, brown sugar, rice vinegar, ginger, garlic, cornstarch, and sesame seeds in a small bowl.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the egg, 2 tablespoons of cornstarch, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
  3. Trim excess fat from the chicken and cut it into small pieces. Toss the chicken in the egg and cornstarch mixture until well coated.
  4. Heat cooking oil in a large skillet over medium flame, then add the coated chicken in a single layer.
  5. Cook undisturbed until golden brown, then flip and continue cooking until golden brown on all sides.
  6. Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken and toss to coat. Simmer until the sauce thickens, then turn off the heat.
  7. Serve the chicken over jasmine rice and top with sliced green onions.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a splash of orange juice to the sauce. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
