Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • ½ cup finely chopped mushrooms
  • â…“ cup shredded carrots (finely chopped)
  • â…“ cup canned water chestnuts (finely chopped)
  • ¼ cup Kikkoman Less Sodium Soy Sauce
  • ¼ cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 head butter lettuce
  • Sesame seeds for garnish
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped green onions

Instructions

  1. Finely chop the beef into 1/4-inch pieces.
  2. Drizzle a large skillet with sesame oil.
  3. Add the beef, mushrooms, carrots, and water chestnuts to the skillet, stirring over medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes until the meat is mostly browned.
  4. In a bowl, stir together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, rice vinegar, garlic, ground ginger, and crushed red pepper flakes.
  5. Pour the sauce into the beef and vegetable mixture, and sauté over medium heat for an additional 3-5 minutes until fully combined.
  6. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions.
  7. Scoop the beef mixture into butter lettuce leaves and serve immediately.

Notes

For added crunch, incorporate other vegetables like bell peppers or zucchini. Adjust the spice level to your preference.
