Description

Transform a simple turkey breast into a succulent feast with this easy slow cooker recipe that guarantees juicy results.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 kg / 4 lb turkey breast: skin on, bone-in or boneless
  • 1 head of garlic: cut in half horizontally
  • 1 onion: any variety—brown, yellow, or white—unpeeled and cut in half
  • 5 sprigs of thyme (or use 2 teaspoons of dried thyme leaves)
  • 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 5 grinds of black pepper
  • 1 1/22 tbsp olive oil
  • Chicken stock/broth (or water): for topping up liquid
  • 4 tbsp / 50g butter
  • 1/4 cup / 35g flour
  • Salt and pepper: to taste

Instructions

  1. Combine the rub ingredients (garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, pepper) in a bowl to form a wet paste.
  2. Pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
  3. Slather the rub all over the turkey, coating sides and top generously.
  4. Place the garlic, onion, and thyme in the slow cooker.
  5. Set the turkey breast on top of the aromatics.
  6. Slow cook on LOW for 6 hours, checking the temperature at around 5 hours.
  7. Remove turkey from the slow cooker and let it rest for 20 minutes.
  8. For gravy, whisk together 1 cup of the slow cooker liquid with butter and flour in a saucepan, adding more liquid for desired consistency.

Notes

For extra flavor, marinate the turkey overnight with the rub. Ensure to check the internal temperature to avoid overcooking.
