Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
  2. In another bowl, combine the egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  3. Gently fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  4. Heat oil in a deep fryer or a heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, frying until golden brown—about 2-3 minutes on each side.
  6. Remove them and let them drain on paper towels.
  7. Dust warm beignets with powdered sugar and serve immediately.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg to the dry ingredients. Ensure oil is hot enough before frying to avoid greasy beignets. Cool on paper towels to keep them airy.
