Description

A rich and creamy potato dish that combines sharp cheddar and gruyere cheese, perfect for special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 Yukon Gold potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1 cup gruyere cheese, grated
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, sweet, chopped
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Nutmeg, a pinch

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease a baking dish with butter.
  3. Peel and thinly slice the potatoes, aiming for 1/8 inch thickness.
  4. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat, then add onions and cook until translucent.
  5. Stir in minced garlic and cook briefly.
  6. Add heavy cream and season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg; simmer until thickened.
  7. Reduce heat, gradually whisk in the cheeses until melted and smooth.
  8. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish, followed by half of the cheese sauce; repeat layers.
  9. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden.
  10. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Slice potatoes uniformly to ensure even cooking. Let the dish rest after baking to solidify layers.
