Description

A rich and flavorful sauce that develops throughout the day in your Crockpot, perfect for pasta or as a base for lasagna.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, finely chopped
  • 2 cans (28 ounces each) crushed San Marzano tomatoes
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté the onion, carrot, and garlic until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the sautéed vegetables to the Crockpot.
  3. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir in the basil, oregano, bay leaf, and season with salt and pepper.
  4. If using meat, brown it in the same skillet until fully cooked, then add it to the Crockpot, stirring to combine.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 360-480 minutes or high for 180-240 minutes.
  6. Before serving, remove the bay leaf and adjust seasoning if needed.

Notes

Ensure your skillet is hot enough before adding the vegetables to prevent steaming. Browning meat can enhance flavor.
