- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup water or beef broth
- 8–10 tostada shells (store-bought)
- Shredded lettuce
- Diced tomatoes
- Shredded cheddar cheese
- Sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
- Salsa or pico de gallo
- Optional toppings: sliced jalapeños, chopped cilantro, black olives, avocado slices
Instructions
- 1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart. Drain excess grease.
- 2. Add chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 3-5 minutes.
- 3. Stir in minced garlic, chili powder, cumin, and smoked paprika. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- 4. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- 5. Pour in water or beef broth, bring to a simmer, reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 5-10 minutes until slightly thickened.
- 6. Prepare your desired toppings while the beef simmers.
- 7. Assemble the tostadas: spoon ground beef onto tostada shells.
- 8. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, cheese, sour cream or yogurt, salsa, and any other preferred toppings.
- 9. Serve immediately.
Notes
Store cooked beef in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. For assembled tostadas, store components separately to maintain crispiness. Reheat beef on the stovetop or in the microwave. Crisp up softened tostada shells in a dry skillet or warm oven before assembling.
