Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 head butter lettuce, leaves separated
  • 1/4 cup chopped peanuts
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Lime wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. 1. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. 2. Add diced onion and cook 3-4 minutes until softened.
  3. 3. Add garlic and ginger, cook 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. 4. Add ground beef, breaking up with spoon. Cook 5-7 minutes until browned.
  5. 5. Whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, rice wine vinegar, and sesame oil.
  6. 6. Mix cornstarch and water in a separate bowl to create slurry.
  7. 7. Pour sauce over beef and simmer 1-2 minutes.
  8. 8. Add cornstarch slurry and cook 1-2 minutes until sauce thickens.
  9. 9. Remove from heat, add red pepper flakes and half the green onions.
  10. 10. Spoon mixture into lettuce cups and garnish with remaining green onions, peanuts, and cilantro.
  11. 11. Serve immediately with lime wedges.

Notes

Store leftover beef mixture in refrigerator up to 3 days. Keep lettuce separate to prevent wilting. Reheat gently in skillet over medium-low heat.
