Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound lean ground beef (85% or 90% lean)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
- 3–4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon salt, plus more for pasta water and to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, plus more to taste
- 12 ounces bowtie pasta (farfalle)
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped, plus more for garnish
- Optional: Red pepper flakes for a touch of heat
- Optional: Grated Parmesan cheese for serving
Instructions
- 1. Brown the beef: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up, until browned. Drain excess grease.
- 2. Sauté aromatics: Add chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened. Add minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute.
- 3. Cook pasta: Boil salted water and cook bowtie pasta al dente. Reserve about 1 cup of pasta water before draining.
- 4. Make sauce: Add butter, chopped parsley, and optional red pepper flakes to the skillet with beef. Stir until butter is melted.
- 5. Combine: Add drained pasta to the skillet. Gradually add reserved pasta water, tossing until the sauce emulsifies and coats the pasta.
- 6. Serve: Taste and adjust seasoning. Garnish with parsley and Parmesan cheese if desired.
Notes
Store leftover pasta in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop with a splash of liquid or in the microwave. Avoid overheating.
