- 1.5 pounds ground beef
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1.5 pounds potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Optional: 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- Optional: 1 teaspoon dried thyme or rosemary
- Optional: 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Brown ground beef in a skillet; drain grease. Add chopped onion and cook until softened. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Whisk together condensed cream of mushroom soup and milk in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish.
- Spread the ground beef and onion mixture over the potatoes.
- Layer the remaining sliced potatoes over the beef mixture.
- Pour the soup mixture evenly over the top layer of potatoes.
- Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil.
- Bake for 50 minutes.
- Remove foil, sprinkle with cheddar cheese if desired.
- Return to oven, uncovered, and bake for another 10-15 minutes until potatoes are tender and cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) covered with foil until heated through, or microwave on medium power.
