Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon salt, plus more to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, plus more to taste
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 8 ounces uncooked pasta (such as penne, rotini, or elbow macaroni)
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- 1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
- 2. Add the chopped yellow onion to the pot with the browned beef. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion has softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- 3. Stir in the minced garlic, dried Italian seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Cook for another minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
- 4. Pour in the beef broth and heavy cream. Bring the mixture to a boil, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pot.
- 5. Add the uncooked pasta to the boiling liquid. Stir to make sure the pasta is submerged.
- 6. Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the pot, and simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until the pasta is al dente and most of the liquid has been absorbed. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. The exact cooking time will depend on the type of pasta used.
- 7. Once the pasta is cooked and the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency, stir in the grated Parmesan cheese and the unsalted butter until both are melted and well combined.
- 8. Taste and adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed.
- 9. Serve immediately, garnished with fresh parsley and extra Parmesan cheese if desired.
Notes
Store cooled leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop with a splash of broth or water, or in the microwave, stirring occasionally.
