Description
A comforting and easy meal made in a slow cooker, featuring layers of cabbage, savory meat, and rice.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 head of cabbage
- 1 pound ground meat (beef, turkey, or chicken)
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
Instructions
- Prepare the cabbage by removing the core and separating the leaves; use leaves that are intact for easier layering.
- In a skillet, cook the ground meat with the chopped onion and minced garlic until browned, enhancing the overall flavor.
- Mix the cooked meat, rice, tomato sauce, salt, pepper, paprika, oregano, and basil in a large bowl until combined; expect a delightful aroma.
- Layer half of the cabbage leaves in the slow cooker, then add the meat mixture on top, and cover with the remaining cabbage leaves; this ensures even cooking.
- Pour any remaining tomato sauce over the top; this will keep the dish moist while cooking.
- Cook on low for 360-480 minutes or on high for 180-240 minutes, until everything is heated through and flavors meld.
- Serve warm; the cabbage will be tender and full of flavor.
